The Challenge
All over London there are acres of terraced houses from the Victorian, Edwardian and other periods, most of which have been updated and improved with loft conversions, side-return extensions and basement upgrades.
Often, though, there's been less attention paid to the outside – to the entrance and the front garden.
This is often because of the difficulty of sourcing the variety of skills and products required for a sympathetic restoration – ironwork for gates and railings, stonework for steps, copings and paving, mosaic tiling for paths and porches, brickwork for walls and piers, plant choice and planting. The list seems endless!
